Coastal Union eye league glory under Mayanja

TANGA-BASED Mainland top flight side Coastal Union are
convinced that they can challenge for title after bringing in
Ugandan coach Jackson Mayanja.

The 1988 Tanzania champions have hired the former Uganda
midfielder Mayanja from Kagera Sugar, who finished a place
below them in the recently concluded season.

Coastal Union finished sixth on the log with 34 points; two
above Kagera Sugar but in Mayanja; they see a coach that will
see them perform better.

Union vice-chairman Steven Mguto is optimistic that
Mayanja’s enormous coaching experience will help improve
their team next season as they seek to return to glory days.

Mguto said the former Bunamwaya (now Vipers), URA FC, KCC
FC and Kiyovu trainer, has signed a two-year deal and will be
assisted by Joseph Lazaro.

He added that Union have also taken measures to strengthen
their squad after recruiting striker Abasarim Chidiebere from
Stand United on a one-year contract. “We have also promoted
players from our second string side.

They are Mtenje Albano, Tumaini Karim, Mohamed Shekue
and Fikirini Suleiman,” Mguto revealed.

Coastal Union spokesperson Oscar Assenga backed Mguto’s
sentiment saying the club has set its target on winning the top
flight silverware and that is the reason they have hired the
new coach.

On his side, Mayanja said he was happy to join Coastal Union
and was looking to a successful career with the Tanga outfit.

He said he wants to steer the team to domestic and
international successes and urged Coastal leaders and
members to unite and support their team
